I took entrepreneurial selling with Craig Wartman, and in that class he helps you think through a way to describe your business in only one sentence and get them hooked. We came up with: “Zipfit is the match.com of butts and jeans.” So, that generally gets men interested the first time. But then Craig also helped us go through and develop an entire sales tool kit for the company and flush out that selling process.

When I was looking for advisors for our first company, I reached out to a handful of Booth alum. One of them is the former chairman and CEO of Carson Pirie Scott. So when it comes to starting a retail business, there’s no one better than someone who used to run a billion-company as a Booth alum. The great thing about the Booth network is that there is someone in almost every career. So, if you ever have a question, a Booth alumni has done it.

Booth is also a lot of fun. It may sound crazy, but after you sit in class from 6 to 9 p.m. with a group of people, you go upstairs to the Midway Club and you grab a drink. Booth is a very social place. We’ll grab dinners together at cultural restaurants. We’ll go out to summer festivals, or we’ll just celebrate someone who had a child recently. But it’s definitely a great place to meet people and have fun too.
